Parish Financial Report 2009

2009 Parish Financial Report

The financial results indicate that the parish had a financially successful year, closing the books with a positive balance of $55,000 with an additional $60,000 being invested with the Diocese.

The overall contributions that were collected through the year totalled $729,000, an increase of 2.3% from last year. The majority of the funds, 69% or $508,000 was raised through the offertory, Easter & Christmas collections and Sacramental offerings. An additional $169,000 was contributed for special diocesan collections such as Sharelife, Shepherd’s Trust, Humanitarian relief, etc.

Of an interesting note, the regular weekly offertory totalled $346,000 for the year. To put the amount into perspective, of the 3,500 people that attend mass each week that works out to a little less than $100 a year or just under $2.00 a week. These funds help to maintain the church building. The building itself is starting to shows signs of aging and is being reflected with the maintenance expenses increasing at a faster rate than the weekly collection.

Our expenditures for the Parish were $713,000, an increase of 9.5% from last year’s expenditures. When you review the report you will see some of the key expenditures:
• The Special Diocesan Collections of $169,000 through the year were paid out. Of interest was $121,000 that was submitted to ShareLife – this was an increase of 10% from last year’s contribution.
• Close to $83,000 was paid as a Diocesan assessment.
• Just over $100,000 was paid in staff salaries.
• Approximately $40,000 was paid in taxes, insurance, heating costs
• And $22,000 in grounds maintenance, landscaping and snow removal.

There is another item in the expenses for a charge of approximately $90,000 representing repairs and renewals. These were planned expenses that were budgeted for the year. It represents:
• Additional meeting rooms that were created in the basement. This allows for more groups to meet. Accommodating such things as confirmation classes and seminars.
• The installation of security cameras around the perimeter of the church for the safety and security of our parishioners, church property and for insurance requirements.

On behalf of the Financial Committee, of the Parish Team and on behalf of all those individuals that we have helped through Share Life and the other special collections, I would like to express my gratitude and appreciation for your continued support and generosity.
