How to go to Confession

  1. Think about your sins and perform the examination of conscience. (Sample found below).
  2. Make the Sign of the Cross as you approach the priest.
  3. Say: “Bless me, Father, for I have sinned, this is my first confession. These are my sins.”
  4. Tell your sins to the priest and be sorry for them.
  5. Listen to the advice and penance given to you by the priest.
  6. The priest will give you absolution and you will make the Sign of the Cross and respond “Amen.”
  7. Pray the penance given by the priest.

    Act of Contrition

My God, I am sorry for my sins with all my heart.
In choosing to do wrong and failing to do good,
I have sinned against you who I should love above all things. I firmly intend, with your help, to do penance, to sin no more, and to avoid whatever leads me to sin.
Our Saviour Jesus Christ suffered and died for us.
In His name, my God, have mercy. Amen.
